Happy Birthday, Maurice

December 23, 2011

Maurice Ainsworth, shown here about to demolish a stack of roofing tiles, taught Peter Yates more about productive training and the martial arts than anybody else. Photograph courtesy of the author.

I would like to begin this post by wishing Maurice Ainsworth a very happy birthday, a bit in advance. Maurice will turn 84 years old on December 30th, and he is still working out with a passion.

Some of you may recall that Maurice is a renowned trainer and practitioner in both strength building and in martial arts. He lives in Darwen, Lancashire in England, and his life story is absolutely remarkable.

Today, MOI writer Peter Yates has a very special birthday present for Maurice – it is a tribute article for him, and it was written 100% from heart. Even more good news is that all of us here at MOI can read it, and I strongly encourage you to do so. This new article from Mr. Yates really captures what this website is all about. Thank you Peter for such a wonderful contribution.

A Tribute to Maurice Robert Ainsworth

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the holidays. I’ll be back on December 26th with a new article. It’s a story about a terrible tragedy that took place 200 hundred years ago in Richmond, Virgina, one which involved horrific suffering, death, bravery, and heroism.
